Frequently asked questions
What is a real hourly rate?
It’s what you keep for every hour you work, not just the hours clients pay for. If you charge $100 an hour but clients pay for only half your working hours, you earn $50 an hour before costs and taxes, and less after.
How do I figure out what to charge?
Start with what you want to take home in a year. Add your business costs and a set-aside for taxes, then divide by the number of paid sessions you can realistically book, after vacations and no-shows. The calculator does this for you.
Should I just work more hours?
Sometimes more hours can’t close the gap: even a completely full schedule may fall short of your goal at today’s price. Raising your price, offering packages, or teaching small groups can earn more without adding hours.
Who is this for?
Anyone who sells their time: coaches, personal trainers, tutors, chiropractors and other practitioners, consultants, freelancers, stylists, and home service businesses.
